Helmet Liners are on their way.

January 19th, 2010 by admin

27 helmet liners are on their way to Afghanistan. Thank you to Michael Chappell, my cousin’s son who is a Lieutenant with Delta Company in the Central New York’s National Guard. The helmet liners are going to the Illinois company that replaced them when the NY company returned last year. I wrote a note to explain where the helmet liners had come from and how we all send our best wishes for their safe return. The next liners I send, I would ask you send a short note to go with them. I was surprised how emotional I was packing them up. We can only hope our liners will help make a difference to the comfort of the soldiers that are wearing them, God speed.

Picture Perfect

January 5th, 2010 by Susan

Ok. I know it is a lot of snow, but it does look like a postcard out the shop window. I have dismantled the Christmas tree, and will need to take down my wreath my niece Marya made me. It is gorgeous, with balls of yarn and knitting needles. I always look forward to the new year. A clean slate. More people to meet, more to see, more to learn. I must give a big thank you to my brother Michael, who spent 3 days with me doing stock take. Not to mention my immediate family. So, Happy New Year to all of you. And of course, Happy Knitting.

Great Adirondack Yarn Trunk Show

November 16th, 2009 by Susan

The weekend was busy at the Junior League show at the Fairgrounds selling Great Adirondack yarns. It was wonderful to meet so many people and help the Junior League raise money for their worthy causes.
This week all the Great Adirondack yarns are being featured in the shop as well as Patti Subic’s handdyed scarves, cotton tops and knitted garments. Please mention the website or email for 10% off your Great Adirondack purchases.
We of course have many wonderful Christmas ideas for gifts and stocking stuffers as well. I look forward to seeing you soon.

Snow!

October 16th, 2009 by Susan

It was a reality check this morning, waking up to a dusting of snow. There will be a few more days of warmer weather, but I really have to face facts that they are almost finished.
This colder weather is perfect however for our knitting and crochet work. And all the beautiful fall yarns are finally here for you to look over. Presently, I am just making a wrap out of 3 different Great Adirondack yarns that are in the same colorway. Moonbeam. Beautiful.
I am happy to say that there will be wonderful additions to our already wonderful teachers in this next round of classes. The classes will be posted soon.
So, if you need a ‘warming’ project, come in and let us help you get started.

Upstate New York

September 24th, 2009 by admin

I had the pleasure of being tour guide to friends who were visiting from Australia this weekend. I was anxious as they are from Sydney and wanted them to see Syracuse at its best. The tour included the University, the city and Columbus Circle, Skaneateles, Cazenovia, Deruyter Lake, and of course Jamesville. They found everything beautiful especially as Autumn has arrived. Gorgeous colors and textures. Let the Autumn inspire you. Instead of the cool blues and greens of summer, why not the warm golds, russets, and deep greens of the pines. Enjoy this wonderful weather and take in the scenery. Come in and be inspired.

School is back!!!!!

September 9th, 2009 by Susan

I always have mixed feelings at the start of the school year. I love having Mary home over the summer, but she always likes to get back to all her friends. The routine will begin and then we will be looking forward to leaves turning, Halloween, Thanksgiving and of course the holiday season in December. In Australia, Halloween was only observed by a few and it was the signal that the school year was coming to a close as the school year starts in February and ends in early December. But as the weather cools down here in New York, many knitters resurface and the knitting “season” begins in earnest.
I wish everyone going back to school a happy and productive year. And to all of you who have taken a break this summer, welcome back.

To My Friends In Australia

September 3rd, 2009 by admin

Helen, Helen, Jenny, Louise, Sharon, Paula, Geraldine, Karen, Dee, Pamela, Deryn, Annette, Sue, Antonia, Rowena, Judith, Rina, Peta, Yve, and my first friend Lissa.

Many of you are making trips to the US and I am waiting patiently for the rest of you. September is here and the leaves will be turning soon.
Yarn Cupboard is bulging with the new autumn yarns and I am working on numerous projects. So remember, as Elizabeth Zimmerman said,
“Really, all you need to become a good knitter are wool, hands, and slightly below-average intelligence. Of course, superior intelligence, such as yours and mine, is an advantage.
