So many boxes!

Friday, April 30th, 2010

Well- I have been up to my chin in boxes the last few days. Lots of beautiful yarns coming in. Lana Grossa’s Taglia is here. 100% cotton ribbon that is 3.5 sts an inch. Gorgeous pastels-and a wonderful book. I love it.
Plymouth’s new sock yarn is here-Zino-so new its hard to find it on the internet. Wonderful colorways, superwash, 436 yards. Berroco’s Origami has been the topic of the Yarn Harlot. Its here for you to have a look at.
And of course I always have many colors in the wonderful Holiday sock yarn, but Jennifer just delivered the Skinny Ewe Lace merino/silk. Beautiful!!!!! 800 yards. If you need more yardage, she is happy to dye to order.
I have been staring at it since she brought it in.
Oh-Artyarn. The Cashmere is back in and wait until you see the colors. (Marcela-the pink is fab)
There are so many options for you this Spring.
Gorgeous new colors in the Baby Alpaca Grande, Mushishi, and a new cotton from Plymouth called Covington.
Not to mention, so many colors in the Encore I can’t count anymore.
So that is what is new here this week. I did miss a few but you will just need to come in and have a look. Hopefully, I can have a bit of a rest tomorrow before I put anything else away. See you soon.

School Break

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

Wow. What a day. It has turned out to be a beautiful, bright afternoon. You may have noticed Jamesville is having an overhaul with the Town putting us all on sewers. The work is being done on Seneca Turnpike. And they are moving right along.
That being said, it hasn’t damped your enthusiasm. Many of you have started those Spring projects, many with the new Spring yarns. I am excited to see your finished projects.
I started today to work with Lang’s Street, the multi colored cotton ribbon. It is so nice to work with and the colorway is gorgeous. I am making a shrug that will eventually go to Mary. She or course came in to approve the color. There were a few colors she liked. I am using the blue as it has a denim appearance. And that seems to be the only thing she wears…
For those of you who are away for the school holidays-enjoy them! And to those who are home, but have the week off, enjoy this beautiful day.

Happy Anniversary Robert.

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

25 years ago today in Jamesville, Robert and I were married. It seems impossible, 25 years, 3 children later that all that time has passed. Robert has always been my biggest source of support and without him, Yarn Cupboard would not of been possible.
As many of you know, having your own business is a 24/7 commitment and without the support of your family, it is almost impossible. So, I thank my husband, family, friends and of course my customers for helping me make Yarn Cupboard possible.

Italy–

Friday, March 26th, 2010

I’m back. Venice, Florence, Rome. In my early years I had traveled through Scandinavia and Great Britain. But, living overseas for so many years we always traveled home on our holidays.
The beauty and history of Italy of course was inspiring. And I kept close attention to the spring fashions. It seemed to be dominated by crochet fabrics. Many of them were embroidered with large colorful flowers. Of course there was a lot of color. Besides neutral crochet cardi’s, purple seemed to be very dominate. Teal, yellows and spring greens as well.
New crochet books have arrived from Rowen and Tahki with gorgeous designs which look very similar to what I was seeing. The Tahki trunk show is here in the shop until Easter. I hope to see you this week to see how these Spring yarns look in these beautiful garments.

Spring is in the air.

Sunday, March 14th, 2010

The snow has melted and I hope it is gone until next winter! It is time to start thinking of all the Spring/Summer knitting we can do. More new yarns, Nashua’s Creative Focus Linen, Rowen’s Calmer and Handknit Cotton, Misti Alpaca’s Handpaint Cotton/Silk, Tahki’s Cotton Classic Lite, Lang’s Street and Amalfi, and Tahki’s Mia. New colors in for Schaefer’s Anne, Berroco’s Seduce and Mountain Colors Bearfoot. Great new pattern support for Rowen, Nashua, Tahki, Berroco, Mountain Colors and Plymouth. So-come in and take a look. I am still deciding what to start next-too much to choice from.

Helmet Liners are on their way.

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

27 helmet liners are on their way to Afghanistan. Thank you to Michael Chappell, my cousin’s son who is a Lieutenant with Delta Company in the Central New York’s National Guard. The helmet liners are going to the Illinois company that replaced them when the NY company returned last year. I wrote a note to explain where the helmet liners had come from and how we all send our best wishes for their safe return. The next liners I send, I would ask you send a short note to go with them. I was surprised how emotional I was packing them up. We can only hope our liners will help make a difference to the comfort of the soldiers that are wearing them, God speed.

Picture Perfect

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

Ok. I know it is a lot of snow, but it does look like a postcard out the shop window. I have dismantled the Christmas tree, and will need to take down my wreath my niece Marya made me. It is gorgeous, with balls of yarn and knitting needles. I always look forward to the new year. A clean slate. More people to meet, more to see, more to learn. I must give a big thank you to my brother Michael, who spent 3 days with me doing stock take. Not to mention my immediate family. So, Happy New Year to all of you. And of course, Happy Knitting.
