Yarn development for The Fibre Co. always begins by trialling blends of various fibres and applying our dyeing know-how from years of dye experiments to create the perfect colour palette.

It was no different for Canopy, the first yarn developed with a partner mill giving it a special place in our heart as the yarn that signalled that The Fibre Co. was ready to unite makers worldwide in their love for luxurious fibres.

The rising popularity of bamboo as a sustainable resource was an obvious choice to add incredible sheen and strength to a new breed of The Fibre Co. yarns.

While developing this blend, our founder Daphne was often reminded of the canopies in the tropical rainforests that bamboo thrives in. Daphne’s previous work life had led to several years spent in Africa and so a colour palette was developed that was reminiscent of the fauna and flora of these tropical ecosystems. We love the heady mix of bright, rich duotones that resulted.

A mix of alpaca, bamboo and merino means a soothing drape with a cosy warmth too. The 3 ply of Canopy Fingering provides good stitch definition that means it works well for both colourwork and textured knits.

Because most shades are hand-dyed, we recommend alternating hanks as you work to give an overall blended appearance.
